At some point, you have to choose which faction you’re going to build.

League

Really strong start to the game and you get plenty of shards for the starting League Heroes. You can compete through the whole game with League. End game weak against Horde Heroes but good against Nature.

Nature

At the start, they are strong but not as much as League. Mid-game struggling against League and Horde. End Game, Nature is really strong. Struggling against League but strong against Horde in the end game.

Horde

This faction is the hardest to build at the start. Till you don’t get your first Mythic Heroes (Storm Maiden), you will struggle with Horde. End Game, probably the strongest faction. Struggling against Nature but really strong against League in the end game.

Epic heroes traits

There are also some non-legendary/mythic heroes that you should level too. All of the Epic heroes (purple) have traits, where you get some good buffs. You can get the traits after they reach 12 stars (2 silver stars).

You can max out until the third trait. Max trait level is 30.

Shards & promotions

You should save your universal legendary shards and use them only on mythic heroes. Because you can get the legendary heroes’ shards in the tavern.

You can promote almost all legendary heroes to mythic heroes after they hit 12 stars. At the process, they get much stronger, skills get better, and add as well a new skill. You need for that a total of 9 promotion stones. The promotion is divided into four sections called tiers. At every tier, they get some bigger buff.
