Research is a core feature of TopHeroes. It boosts combat, economy, and growth across your account. Managing priorities and timing is key to long-term efficiency.
Introduction
Progressing through research unlocks permanent improvements: combat stats, resource generation, army strength, and more. This system is essential for overall growth and competitive events.
The Research Cottage
Available from the start, upgrading the Research Cottage unlocks more research sections. Each finished research increases your power, boosting your rankings in certain events.
Speedups & Guild Help
Always wait for guild help before using speedups—this reduces total time more effectively. Save research speedups for specific event days to maximise points.
Research Queues
By default, you only have one queue. A second queue can be unlocked for about $10, letting you run two researches simultaneously. Free-to-play players are limited to one queue.
Combat Expertise
The first available branch. Provides mixed buffs (attack, defence, general stats). Fast to finish and should be completed 100% immediately.
Research Themes
After Combat Expertise, three specialised branches unlock:
- Economy: Resource production.
- Growth: General acceleration of timed activities.
- Queue Boost: Enhances hero formations.
These boost your overall power and are valuable for research day events, since points scale with power gained.
Advanced Section
Unlocked later, this section includes Arm Race Commendation, Arm Race Prep, Soldier, and Hero branches. Some give big power boosts (good for research days), others less (better saved for off days).
Arm Race Commendation
Grants extra rewards during Guild Arm Race, including chest doubling. Prioritise this early for better event rewards.
Arm Race Prep
Contains useful stats and three crucial upgrades that give soldiers a +1 level buff. This is a must-get milestone.
Soldier Section
Every research here is useful and power-heavy. While long, they are resource-cheap, making them ideal for research day sprees.
Season 1: Expert Section
Unlocks with Season 1. Provides strong boosts for Guild Arm Race, KvK, and Four Nations League. Pause other branches until you secure all event reward upgrades here.
Premium & Master Sections
In late Season 1, Premium unlocks (Castle 40 + Cottage 40 + Soldier 100%). It includes Glory of League, Honor of Horde, and Vitality of Nature.
Permanent Privilege Boost
A paid option that’s highly recommended if you spend money. Grants:
- 50% faster research in Beginner and Advanced sections
- Auto-research (automatically starts new research when one finishes)
Final Tips
- Prioritise Soldier +1 buffs early.
- Always use guild help before speedups.
- Save big power researches for research days.
- Don’t rush branches like Economy outside relevant events.
